Minerva Fellows
Every year, Union College sends one or two recent college graduates to Engeye for 9 months, from July to April, with a mission to use their unique talents to support Engeye and the local community.
Amy Haven
Minerva Fellow 2019-2020
Amy Haven is a sociology-biology interdepartmental major and a chemistry minor. She is an active leader on campus, a former athlete on the Women’s Basketball team, and has done extensive volunteer work through Union’s Kenny Community Center. She has a deep interest in rural health, which led her to study abroad in 2017 on Union’s National Health Systems Term Abroad program, where she explored health systems in the US, Canada, the UK, and the Netherlands. For her senior thesis she has been examining issues related to obesity and rural health in America. She describes herself as having a “thirst for knowledge, empowerment, and service.” She is extremely excited and dedicated to have the opportunity to continue exploring rural health issues internationally and working with the team at Engeye.
Lauren Elder
Minerva Fellow 2019-2020
Lauren Elder is a double major in biology and visual arts and is interested in a career as a medical illustrator. She has focused her volunteer and internship experience towards both art and medicine. She has volunteered at Albany Medical Hospital working with both patients and medical professionals and has interned as an art educator working with young children at the Capital Regions Art Center. Most recently she worked at Regeneron Pharmaceutical as a Print and Digital Intern where she assisted the company with print and digital marketing. She too is excited for the opportunity to work with the health staff at Engeye and in her interview discussed her experience working with and tutoring small children, which could be a great asset for the Engeye Scholars program.
